"PEE"...It Was Always A Funny Word...

Those zany "Mo-Fo's" at Kid Robot have done it again. While perusing the Lacoste' x Kid Robot sneaks, I discovered a new vinyl toy called the Peecol. It has a "Bearbrick hit tha' skins with Fisher-Price's Husky Helpers" vibe and it is sure to rawk the socks off of hipster collectors everywhere. Designed by EbOY [Steffen Sauerteig, Svend Smital and Kai Vermehr] who form a pixel artist collective that have worked with many high profile clients. Hit up their web-store to find gift wrap and posters along with their Peecols. Kid Robot's site also rocks The Peecolator, where you can create and download your own customized Peecol image from a number of available options.

CHARITY begins @ HOME

Charity Lunchboxes:
[From Charityfolks.com]

"For the 2007 Lunchbox Auction, 100+ iconic celebrities from the entertainment, fashion, art, music, literary and culinary worlds remind us that food matters by creating personalized lunchbox art for online auction. The auction benefits two hunger-relief organizations —
Food Bank For New York City and
The Lunchbox Fund of South Africa.
Each lunchbox is signed and no two lunchboxes are alike."

"Hunger is a global problem. Whether it is New York City or Soweto, South Africa, the children of the world are the ones most severely affected. In New York City, approximately 1.3 million people turn to food assistance programs like soup kitchens and food pantries — and one in five of them is a child. South Africa, a country that is rich and prosperous, is also a country in which an estimated eighteen million people live without adequate food, water or sanitation. Children are often forced to make a decision to learn or to eat."

Hit up their site and bid on some interestingly playful pieces, designed by a slew of industry, design and paparazzi playmates.

Here are a few selections from the auction's offerings:

MEGA MAKE OUT SESSION

L/V: deep concentration.

The Myx: "cos I'm no comedian"

Serious fun at Make Out Wednesdays. Big ups to Bling Shui for allowing us to run-tings around the rope-a-dope. Excellent vibes felt all around which rare in the Gassed-Lamp, especially on a weeknight. The Make Out hosts a very relaxed night for patrons and DJs who don't have to feel like grandstanding and just play some fun-ass sh*t. MEGA busted out some fresh french house madness along with the funkiest Three's Company remix you will ever hear. Many got the elusive MEGA buttons and Myxtapes cos MEGA don't play when it comes to schwag. We can't wait to get back there and do it again. Check em out>
Make Out Wednesdays.

KRUSH and Beyond

So it's been a minute since we properly updated this and things have been happenin proper. 1stly, the Krush show was tougher than nails (see pic above). We were flattered to open up for such a pioneer. The man himself was on-point, straight fierce. Those fortunate enough to grab tickets witnessed it within close range as Krush was moved from the main floor into HOB's Delta Room. All n all, a proper way for MEGA to start a new chapter from where it all started.

FREE "LITHIUM PICNIC" : TONIGHT!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

A concerned few organize a fundraiser to support Lithium Picnic in his legal battle with SuicideGirls September 24, 2007 San Diego CA

Free Lithium Picnic San Diego is a fundraiser organized by the fans of photographer Phillip Warner, better known as Lithium Picnic, in response to ongoing litigation between himself and SG Services Inc. (SuicideGirls). The event will be held on November 3, 2007 at 7pm in the gallery at the Rubber Rose in San Diego, CA. His work will be on display in the gallery before the event and will remain in the gallery until late afternoon the following day. All the photos being shown will be up for sale or silent auction; other items of interest will include unique handmade corsets for silent auction and donated items from other concerned parties. Lithium Picnic and his wife, well-known model, Apnea will also be in attendance.

Free Lithium Picnic San Diego organized the fundraiser after reading about the couple's legal and financial troubles. In addition to listing their studio for sale in Houston, TX they have also sold other personal items, camera equipment, costumes Apnea has posed in, and have posted a Paypal link on his site for donations all to raise money for his legal fees. SuicideGirls is suing the photographer for over $100,000 after an alleged breach of contract, photographing his wife for her personal website www.apneatic.com.

Lithium Picnic's portfolio runs the gamut of art photography; from portraiture and fashion, to semi nudes and fetish, each piece exhibits his ability showcase the uniqueness and beauty of his subjects. His expansive portfolio can be viewed on multiple websites including his own, www.lithiumpicnic.com as well as being the featured photographer on his wife's site www.apneatic.com. He also has his photos posted on several artist community websites (i.e.www.deviantart.com, www.onemodelplace.com). Picnic's work is also well-known in the art community; his credits include work in Juxtapoz Magazine, Marquis Magazine, Elegy Magazine and many more, he has also been publicized on MTV, the A&E network and the Playboy website, as well as having his work used on numerous album and book covers.

Steve Diet Goedde (Photographer): "Philip's work harnesses the three components of great photography: understanding lighting, knowing composition, and bringing out the beauty of his subjects. I love being able to look through his eyes. He's one of my favorite photographers out there, period."

Michael Hussar (Painter): "Although he uses a camera. Make no mistake about it Philip is a Painter. He paints with Light... His palette is a prism as rich and painterly as any Goya or Velasquez or Vermeer. Through the vessel that is the Female Landscape, he effortlessly establishes a direct and powerful visual dialogue with the viewer that is both voyeuristic and present. Simply put, Philip's work is Bad Ass... He stands alone because his work is authentic. And authenticity speaks to us all universally. Now... and Forever." and really, you gotta r.s.v.p.

like, asap!

ALIVE in JAPAN...

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Robot rockers Daft Punk are delivering their live show to home stereos with a new live album "Alive 2007" but don't expect a behind the scenes peek at their LED-tastic show, which features a 20-foot-high glowing pyramid [spaceship], as the release will come with no live video footage. "That's the way we want to leave it right now," Thomas Bangalter told Billboard magazine.

The album will instead be released as a 27-track single CD or 32-track double CD [including encore versions] with a fifty-page booklet. A live version of 'Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger' will be the lead single from the album accompanied by a music video directed by Olivier Gondry, that includes live footage shot by fans who were asked to bring their cameras to select shows and submit the footage.

FIGURES... Once again Medicom and Daftpunk get collaborate on a wikked Bearbrick Set in conjunction with the release. This time, in order to get your hands onto the set, you have to purchase the Japanese version of Daft Punk "Alive 2007". The release date for the double disc is scheduled for the 19th of November and the dollar conversion for the 5000 yen price equals around 45 American dollars. Considering that the previous bricks the Dafters designed are now worth 300 or so on e-Bay, I'd say that it is a bargain as the music alone is worth more than that. Those who experienced their live set, know that is the god's truth. The set is limited to 3000 lucky fuckers, worldwide.

From Wikipedia:

EPMD a American rap group from Brentwood, New York, active for more than 20 years 1986 - 2007 are one of the most prominent acts in East coast hip hop. The group's name is an acronym for "Erick and Parrish Making Dollars", referencing its members: rappers Erick Sermon and Parrish Smith ("PMD"). Diamond J, DJ K La Boss, and later DJ Scratch were DJs for the group.

EPMD's first album, Strictly Business, appeared in 1988, spawning the massive underground hit "Strictly Business", sampling Eric Clapton's "I Shot the Sheriff". Many critics see their first album as their most influential. The group's brand of funk-fueled sample-heavy hip hop proved to be a major force in hip-hop. Unlike old school hip hop, which was first based on disco hits but eventually became more electronic, EPMD based its music mainly on lifting funk & rock breaks for samples, and helped to popularize their usage, along with Marley Marl and Public Enemy. "You're a Customer" combined snippets of Steve Miller's "Fly Like an Eagle", Kool & the Gang's "Jungle Boogie", and the bassline from ZZ Top’s "Cheap Sunglasses". "Jane", about a romantic rendezvous turned bad, would be revisited on no less than five sequels; a first for rap, and perhaps rock and roll. "You Gots to Chill" used 80s funk band Zapp's "More Bounce to the Ounce" , which has become one of the most enduring sample sources for rap. "I'm Housin'" was covered some 12 years later by Rage Against the Machine. Managed early on by Russell Simmons' RUSH Management, the group toured with such hip-hop luminaries as Run-DMC, Public Enemy, and DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince.

EPMD was signed to Sleeping Bag Records for their debut album Strictly Business, by electro funk pioneer, Kurtis Mantronik. Propelled by several strong singles (You Gots to Chill, the title track), the album eventually went gold, selling over 500,000 copies, as did 1989's follow-up, Unfinished Business. Financial frustrations followed when Sleeping Bag went under in 1990. The duo then signed to Def Jam. EPMD returned in 1990 with Business As Usual and Business Never Personal two years later. By 1992, they presided over an extended family dubbed Hit Squad, including Redman, K-Solo, Das Efx, Hurricane G, and the Knucklehedz.

In 1992, EPMD had a hit with their song "Crossover" which lamented rappers making blatant concessions to pop sensibilities (aka 'selling out') in order to get mainstream attention from music audiences. The duo split by January of 1993, under controversial circumstances. According to interviews in The Source and Rap Pages, in late 1991, Smith’s house was burglarized by armed intruders. According to Smith, in the ensuing police investigation, one of the apprehended culprits supposedly gave up Sermon’s name as having allegedly paid them to do it. Sermon was arrested and briefly detained for questioning, but no charges were filed. Still, it led to lingering tensions, and by the time of the breakup, Sermon alleged financial impropriety on Smith’s part. The pair found themselves as solo artists by default: Sermon debuted in 1993 with No Pressure, followed by Double or Nothing (1995), Music (2001), and React (2002). Smith made his statements on 1994's Shade Business, followed by Business is Business (1996).
