"A NEW YEAR & SOME OL' HANDS----MEGA SELECTS THA' FIYAA!"

Our choices for the best of the year were tough to decide upon yet we feel we weeded through a number of hot remixes and LP's to give you our opinions on what we feel was the ultimate in necessary listening in 2007.
No, we didn't jump on the avant-garde poseur's bandwagon choosing the likes of Panda Bear, Band of Horses, Animal Collective, Feist or LCD Soundsystem. We decided to really decipher the single cuts and LP's that we could not stop listening to and rhythmic trax that seemed to flood the dancefloor, no matter how elitist or supposedly commercial the selections are deemed by our peers.

~HAPPY 2008!

D.J. Myxzlplix's Selections:

TOP LP'S-

1. Our Love To Admire--Interpol

When rumours flew of a break-up, when the Joy Division comparison was just getting ugly, they came with an album that clearly solidifies their autonomy and decadent grace. A complete album.

BUY

2. Kala--M.I.A.

On many lists I'm sure and quite deserved. Less raw than "Arular" but this exposed her, Diplo, Rye Rye and Switch to much more to than just the curious and skeptical. XR2 was Mega's favorite choice and I decided to force feed the "crunkified" with my own M.I.A. Mash

BUY

3. Finding Forever--Common

In the eyes and ears of many, Common can never eclipse "like chocolate" and "be" is slicker but the fact that he's still side by
side with Kanye, Souljah Boy, and Jay-Z on the best seller wall at Best Buy, earns his latest work at least a listen and earns him much praise for his historic consistency.

BUY

4. Songs About Girls--Will I. Am

"I Got It From My Mama" was by far the corniest track and bad choice for first single that clearly kept many away from even listening to this solo lp. Aside from all the B.E.P. and Fergie saturation, when Will goes solo, he's truly intrepid. This was the listener's chance to make up for missing "Lost Change" in the first place. When you can rap, sing, dance, and produce not only pop stars, but yourself as well then you can say this wasn't a good album. Will I. Am is a monster. Period.

BUY

5. Once [Original Soundtrack]--Glen Hansard & Markéta Irglová

The heart and soul of this lovely [yes, I said lovely] film, once is all pop can be; honest, endearing, and bittersweet. Those who have love for The Frames will recognize Glen and his melodic style.

BUY

6. In Rainbows--Radiohead

This monumental "pay what you will" download proved that T. Yorke and the "Gents" aren't going anywhere but straight into your eardrums and into the annals of music marketing history. Look for a billion remixes to follow this recording and the newly released subsequent second volume.

BUY

7. Big Doe Rehab--Ghostface Killah

BUY

8. American Gangster [Original Soundtrack]--Jay-Z

The only two icon related Lp's that didn't include a "how-to-dance-to-it video" or any commercially viable singles. At face value, they're concept albums that should be listened to from start to finish and that's truly rare these days [unless you're Radiohead]. Jay-Hova returns to some of the best narratives he's dropped since "Reasonable Doubt" and Ghostface needed a comeback since "More Fish" didn't really seem "thug-official," even though the release of his limited edition action figure, complete with precious metal chain was legendary. Both Lp's weighed so heavily on content that the duo almost made up for every other mediocre artist's release this year.

BUY

...Unfortunately Myx had a shitty head-cold, so his top singles will be posted shortly.
